When you buy a house you aren’t just buying a house, you are buying a community.

One of the most important things to look at in that community is the school system. If you have kids, you’ll want to know that they will be given a superior education with excellent opportunities to excel in academics, sports, music, art, leadership roles, etc. If you don’t have kids, you still want to be sure your home is in a community with great schools because this will increase the value of your home.

As a mother, I know first hand the importance of a good education for my children. I was actively involved in my kids education and am still the biggest financial contributor to Villa Park High School. On this page you’ll find excellent online resources to use in your research of local schools. Once you narrow down your list of potential communities and schools, its a good idea to some further research offline. Meet with the principal, ask to sit in on a class and ask the parents what they like and don’t like about the school.

GreatSchools.org is a great site for researching schools. You can see parent reviews, test scores, special features and the location of the school. You can also compare schools side by side.

If you’re interested in private schools, visit Private School Review. You can look up private schools in every community and learn about the size of the school, demographic and general overview of the school. You can also register for a free account and save schools you want to revisit later.
